Artist Statement
My main interests lie in the exploration of the human body. The small areas that some of us may take for granted or not even give a considered thought to. I feel that we should celebrate every part of our bodies, appreciating all the smalls part that make up to our whole being. Exploring the human body by using casting techniques and using fallen objects, such as teeth, is the most successful method that I use in my work. More recently looking into our western world and indeed other global cultures, why are we so eager to give away or get rid of something we have grown in our own bodies? Something that we have created inside? Should we not be proud of the fallen objects that our body has considered to be useless?
I create mainly medium scale work which is not to an everyday wearable style. I am interested by using multi media, such as silver, brass, wood, resin and silicone. I enjoy the contrasting elements that these materials give to each other along with the compliments they seem to share. I like to inject a douse of my own personality into my work, which normally is portrayed in a humourous fashion. The first glance at a piece is the most powerful and if it can give you a moment of pleasure through laughter I feel I have achieved one of my aims. I want to connect with people through one of our most enjoyable emotions, giving the viewer and I an instant link through a humourous narrative that I have created, may that be through a single piece or a collection.
